We are twin brothers who have worked together as an artist duo for over twenty years, based in Berlin and Switzerland. Our work focuses on the image as material, with particular attention to the body and the representation of form.
Photography is the starting point of our research. We approach the image both as a carrier of ideas and as a reflection of everyday life, engaging with the realities and tensions of contemporary society. The Internet is our primary field of research and source material. We photograph images directly from the web through a computer screen; the distortions produced by this reappropriation process are integral to our practice.
These images then undergo extensive experimentation on paper through our “drip-printing” technique, a transfer process akin to monotype. Repeated hundreds of times, this method introduces chance and unpredictability, progressively fragmenting and deconstructing the image and opening it to multiple readings.
By treating photography as a material, we explore its physical substance — ink and form — breaking down figurative elements and shifting them toward abstraction. The resulting works, created entirely in ink, exist at the intersection of photography and painting, extending the photographic image into a painterly language.
